CM Maryam Nawaz Launches Free Solar Panel Scheme in Punjab

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has officially announced the “CM Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme.” This Program aims to distribute free solar energy systems to 100,000 households across the province.
Scheme Overview
The scheme targets electricity consumers with a monthly usage of up to 200 units. Successors will receive solar systems at no cost, with allocations based on consumption:
- Consumers using up to 100 units per month: Provision of a 550-watt solar system.
- Consumers using up to 200 units per month: Provision of an 1100-watt solar system.
The primary objective is to offer permanent relief from high electricity costs and encourage the adoption of sustainable energy solutions.
Application Process
Eligible residents can apply through two methods:
- Online Portal: Visit cmsolarscheme.punjab.gov.pk to register by providing the reference number and CNIC mentioned on the monthly electricity bill.
- SMS Registration: Send an SMS to 8800 with the required details.
The application window is open from December 6, 2024, to January 5, 2025. Following the registration period, a transparent computerized balloting process will select the successors.
Government’s Commitment
During the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif highlighted the government’s dedication to utilizing public resources for the welfare of its citizens. She highlighted that previously, 7.3 million consumers benefited from a subsidy of Rs.14 per unit.
