Babar Azam Will Not Open In Champions Trophy 2025: Muhammad Rizwan

A day before the mega event, the captain hinted at changing the opening pair once again. Mohammad Rizwan provided an update, stating, “We have various options for openers, but Babar Azam is a better player as an opener. However, it’s not necessary that he will open for Pakistan in the first match against New Zealand.”
He added, “Pakistan actually needs a better combination in the middle order. There are high expectations from Babar Azam in this event. Decisions are made based on conditions. It’s true that the Pakistan team often fluctuates, but they are capable of pulling off big achievements at any time. We hope the Pakistan cricket team will repeat the history of the Champions Trophy 2017.”
Regarding Haris Rauf’s injury, Rizwan shared an update, saying, “Fast bowler Haris Rauf is bowling in rhythm and is fully fit.”
The national team captain also praised Shaheen Afridi, calling him a highly skilled and experienced fast bowler for his age. He mentioned that even foreign cricketers seek guidance from him. Reflecting on the recent tri-series final against New Zealand, Rizwan admitted that mistakes led to their defeat, but the team is working hard to address their weaknesses.
