Pakistan Launches Its First Digital ID Card

On Monday, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) introduced Pakistan’s first-ever fully digital ID card, marking a significant milestone in identity management and database integration. The occasion also celebrated NADRA’s 25 years of service.
This dematerialized identity document will now be accessible through the Pak ID mobile app, allowing citizens to use their digital ID without the need for a physical card.
To enhance digital security, a verification system under the World Bank-supported Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP) will be introduced soon. The pilot phase for this fully digital identity is scheduled to launch on August 14, 2025. A special ceremony was held at NADRA’s headquarters to commemorate this silver jubilee celebration.
On this occasion, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated NADRA on its remarkable achievements. To honor this milestone, the State Bank of Pakistan issued a commemorative coin, and Pakistan Post released a special postage stamp.
