Attack On SERBIA’s Parliament With Smog Grenades By Opposition Leaders

The Serbian Parliament witnessed unprecedented turmoil when tear gas and smoke grenades were unleashed inside the assembly hall, resulting in injuries to two lawmakers.

Parliaments across the world are expected to be centers of lawmaking and governance, but disagreements among politicians sometimes lead to heated arguments or even physical violence’s. However, the recent events in Serbia’s Parliament exceeded typical political disputes, turning the legislative chamber into a scene of battlefield.

On Tuesday, instead of engaging in discussions, lawmakers found themselves in a tense and volatile environment as smoke and gas engulfed the room.

Opposition Protests Turned into Violence

According to international reports, opposition members staged a demonstration against government policies during the session. What began as a verbal dispute soon turned into a full-scale disruption when opposition lawmakers resorted to using tear gas and smoke grenades, bringing proceedings to a standstill.

The outburst occurred after the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and its coalition partners passed an agenda, which provoked some opposition members to leave their seats and head toward the Speaker’s podium. This led to a physical confrontation with security staff.

As tensions rose, some opposition members threw tear gas canisters and smoke grenades, filling the chamber with thick smoke and forcing lawmakers and officials to evacuate.

Injuries Reported Among Lawmakers

Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabić confirmed that two lawmakers were injured in the violent unrest, with one of them in critical condition. The chaotic scenes have raised concerns about political stability and parliamentary conduct in the country.
