Overview

Petrol prices in Pakistan have changed a lot over the years. In 1947, when Pakistan became independent, petrol cost only 0.23 PKR per liter. Gradually but steadily, the price of fuel went up so much that by 1975, a liter cost 1.2 rupees Pakistani, and by the year 1990, that same crucial fluid cost six rupees per liter.

In the 2000s, petrol prices rose quickly. In 2000, the price of fuel was 30 Pakistani rupees for a liter, and then two decades later, in 2011, it had risen to 80 rupees per liter. Things turned this way because of inflation and because a lot more oil costs began to go up too, hitting us with nasty higher taxes all along.

By 2020, the price of petrol went over 100 rupees a liter and then that price continued to climb because of economic issues and the devaluation of the Pakistani currency. In 2024, petrol cost 252.66 PKR per liter, and in 2025, it is 255.63 PKR per liter.
