Punjab Govt Launches Electric Bus Service in Lahore

The Punjab government is working to make travel easier and greener in Lahore. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz recently started a pilot project for electric buses. By August, 500 more electric buses will join the current 27-bus fleet. Each bus has a 350 kWh battery. A 200 kWh charger takes three hours for a full charge, while a fast charger in Green Town can recharge a bus in just 30 minutes. These buses can travel up to 300 kilometers, easily covering their 250-kilometer routes.

Affordable and Safe Travel for All

The Chief Minister also announced that the Orange Line Train, electric buses, and Speedo service will be free for senior citizens, disabled people, and students. Other passengers will pay a subsidized fare of Rs. 20. Maryam Nawaz said that a low fare makes travel affordable and helps reduce the burden on the public. The pilot project is expected to serve about 17,000 people daily. For added comfort and safety, the buses come with free Wi-Fi, mobile charging ports, and CCTV cameras.
